At Whisker Foundation, our mission is to place every cat and kitten in a safe, loving, and permanent home. We are committed to thoughtful placements that support lifelong success.

Application Process

To begin, please complete our Cat Adoption Questionnaire so we can learn more about you and your household.

Approved applicants will be contacted to schedule a meet-and-greet. Many of our cats and kittens are in foster homes, and appointments are required.

Due to the volume of applications we receive, submitting an application does not guarantee approval. If you do not hear from us within 3–5 days, the kitten may have been adopted, or we may be moving forward with another applicant. Whisker Foundation reserves the right to deny any application at our discretion.

Availability

You may occasionally see only a few kittens — or none — listed on our website. This does not reflect the total number in our care. Many kittens are still receiving medical treatment, completing vaccinations, recovering from spay or neuter surgery, or finishing a 10–14 day health quarantine.

We only make kittens available once they are medically cleared and ready for adoption.

Adoption Requirements

To ensure safe and responsible placements, adopters must:

• Be at least 21 years of age
• Provide valid photo identification
• Have landlord approval and provide phone number (if renting)
• Provide the Veterinary phone number and address
• Commit to keeping the cat indoors only
• Agree not to declaw
• Provide ongoing veterinary care
• Provide photos of the home environment where the kitten/cat will reside
• Consent to a possible in-home visit (virtual or in person) at Whisker Foundation’s discretion

Medical Care & Rabies (Washington State)

All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and receive age-appropriate vaccinations prior to adoption unless otherwise noted.

In accordance with Washington State law (WAC 246-100-197), cats four (4) months of age and older are required to receive a rabies vaccination. If a kitten is adopted prior to reaching the required age, the adopter agrees to have the rabies vaccine administered by a licensed veterinarian as soon as legally eligible and to maintain the vaccination as required by state and local law.

Medical Disclaimer

While every cat and kitten receives veterinary care prior to adoption, no rescue can guarantee future health. Stress, environmental changes, or previously undetectable conditions may emerge after adoption. We strongly encourage adopters to schedule a wellness exam with their veterinarian within 3–5 days of adoption.

Adoption Fees – Cats and Kittens

Adoption fees help offset the cost of medical care, food, and rescue operations. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, adoption fees do not cover the full cost of care but allow us to continue saving lives.

Our adoption fee helps offset the high cost of veterinary care and daily support each cat or kitten receives before going home. This includes the essential medical services and preventative care listed below, along with the hands-on care provided during their time in foster care. In addition to medical treatment, the fee also helps cover quality nutrition, litter, enrichment, and daily supplies while they are with us. By contributing to these essential services, adopters are not only giving their new companion a healthy start but also helping us continue to rescue and care for the next cat in need.
