Cat and Kitten Adoption Process

Adopting a cat or kitten is a meaningful commitment that can bring years of companionship and joy. At Whisker Foundation, our goal is to match every cat with a safe, loving home where they can thrive for life.

We work with both cats in our direct care and cats cared for by trusted local rescue partners. This allows us to help more cats find homes throughout Snohomish County and surrounding communities, including Everett, Lynnwood, Marysville, Seattle, and Shoreline.

Below, you can learn how the adoption process works and what to expect when applying to adopt a cat.

Step 1: Browse Available Cats

Start by exploring the cats and kittens currently available for adoption on our website. Each cat has a dedicated profile that includes photos, personality details, and information about their needs.

Some cats are cared for directly by Whisker Foundation, while others may be cared for by partner rescues or foster homes. Each listing will indicate the rescue responsible for the cat’s care.

If you find a cat you are interested in, you can submit an adoption inquiry directly from the cat’s profile.

Step 2: Complete the Cat Adoption Questionnaire

All potential adopters are asked to complete a cat adoption questionnaire. This helps us understand your home environment, experience with cats, and what type of companion may be the best match.

Our goal is not to make adoption difficult, but to ensure each cat is placed in a home where they will be safe, happy, and well cared for.

Step 3: Application Review

Once we receive your questionnaire, the rescue responsible for the cat will review your information. If it appears to be a good match, someone from the rescue may contact you to discuss the cat, answer questions, and talk about the next steps.

Depending on the situation, this may include a meet-and-greet or additional conversation to ensure the adoption is a good fit for both the cat and the adopter.

Step 4: Adoption Approval and Placement

If your application is approved, the rescue responsible for the cat will contact you to discuss the next steps. This may include an additional conversation, a meet-and-greet, or final arrangements for bringing the cat home. Each rescue follows its own adoption procedures to help ensure the best possible match for both the cat and the adopter.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees help cover the cost of veterinary care and basic medical treatment that the cats receive before being placed for adoption.

Most cats receive age-appropriate veterinary care, which may include:

  • Vaccinations
  • Parasite Treatment
  • Flea Prevention
  • Spay or Neuter Surgery when age appropriate

Because some cats are cared for by partner rescues, adoption fees may vary by the organization responsible for the cat’s care. The adoption fee for each cat will be listed on the individual cat profile.

These fees help support the rescue work needed to provide medical care, food, and safe foster environments for cats until they find permanent homes.

If your application is approved, the rescue caring for the cat will contact you to discuss the next steps in the adoption process.

Our Commitment to Responsible Adoption

At Whisker Foundation, we believe that every cat deserves a stable and loving home. We work to place cats with adopters who understand the responsibility of caring for an animal throughout its life.

If you are ready to welcome a cat into your home, we encourage you to browse the cats currently available for adoption and complete the adoption questionnaire when you find a cat that may be the right match.

Because some cats are cared for by partner rescues, adoption fees may vary by the organization responsible for the cat’s care. The adoption fee for each cat will be listed on the individual cat profile.
