Become a Foster with Whisker Foundation

Fostering is one of the most powerful ways to help cats in need. By opening your home to a rescued cat or kitten, you provide the comfort, stability, and love they need while we work to find their forever family.

Foster Scenarios

Whisker Foundation places cats and kittens in foster homes for many different reasons, including:

  • Litters of kittens too young for adoption
  • Bottle-baby kittens requiring frequent feeding and hands-on care
  • Adult cats who need socialization before adoption
  • Cats who struggle in shelter environments and thrive in a home setting
  • Cats or kittens recovering from illness or medical treatment

Requirements to Foster

To ensure the safety and well-being of our foster cats, we ask that foster homes:

  • Keep foster cats or kittens indoors and separate from household pets when needed
  • Commit to a minimum foster period:
    • Adult cats: at least 2 weeks
    • Kittens: approximately 2–3 months
  • Have at least 30 minutes twice daily for feeding, cleaning, and socialization
  • Communicate regularly with our rescue team about progress or concerns

Transportation Considerations

Some foster situations require transportation for veterinary appointments or adoption events.

  • Kitten fosters should have regular access to a car, as kittens need routine check-ups and vaccinations
  • Emergency transport may occasionally be needed on short notice
  • Adult cat fosters without transportation are still welcome, especially for longer-term home-based placements
  • Some adult cats benefit from meeting potential adopters in the foster home, accompanied by a Whisker Foundation adoption counselor
